1. What is the Export/ Backup option and what can I do with it?

DeskAway account owners will now be able to take a full export and backup of everything within their accounts. This include all project data (milestones, tasks, issues, docs, messages), shared & public contacts, all blogs (with comments) and team information. When you request an Export we will email you a link through which you will be able to download a zipped file containing all of the above.

2. From where do I access the Export/ Backup link?

If you are the "Account Owner" (see if there is an "Account Owner" next to your name on the top right corner) goto the 'Settings' tab. You will see the "Export/ Backup" link next to the "Account Information" link.

3. Can I export all projects (even though I might not be a part of all)?
Yes, an export request will export everything (excluding files) within all projects. It doesn't matter if the Account Owner is not a part of all projects.

4. Who should be the Account Owner?
By default, the person who created the DeskAway account will be the Account Owner (and a Super User). The Account Owner can give up the ownership to someone else in the team. This person should be someone with authority to upgrade the account and request a full backup.

5. Its not letting me request an export anymore. What should I do?
You can only request an export once a day. You will have to wait for the next day to request another export.

6. Does the export include my project files?
No, at this time the export does not include your project files. There are several reasons why we decided this:
  • You can directly download files from your DeskAway account
  • Since you uploaded the file, you might have a copy of it on your computer
  • Increase in the overall size of the zip folder which would make the zip file cumbersome to download

7. What is included in the export folder?
  • Team Information (.csv)
  • Blog Details (.html)
  • Public & Shared Contacts (.csv)
  • Project Issues (.csv & .html)
  • Project Messages (.html)
  • Project Docs (.html)
  • Project Tasks (.html)
  • Project Time Sheet (.csv)
  • Project Progress Report including Milestones, Tasks, Issues (.csv)

8. Everytime I do the export/back up it shows me an error message while extracting from the zip file in my mac. What can I do?
If you are using Mac OS X system, you might have an issue while unzipping the exported zipped file that you received after initiating a backup/export of all your DeskAway projects. We have seen this happen a couple of times with the inbuilt Mac Archive Utility. To overcome this issue here are 2 solutions:
1. See if the zipped file is corrupt by running this command in your Terminal window: unzip -t filename
2. If all is well, then use this command to unzip the file. This should most likely work: unzip filename.
3. We have had success with using this application instead of the default archiving tool: http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html
Hope this works!
