WeMentor Social Media is a business that creates and manages social media strategies for other businesses. We are a social media outsourcing firm.

Phyllis R. Neill, President/CEO of WeMentor Social Media shared her views on how she uses DeskAway.....

How are you using DeskAway and what value is it providing your team? Were you using any other tool or method before DeskAway?
Our business is done virtually, so there is no physical office. We needed a tool that kept up with our activity - first, creating social media strategies for our clients, and then in executing/maintaining those strategies for 12 month contracts. Prior to DeskAway, I personally did a "test-drive" of every project management software out there I can think of, including a 6-month stint trying hard to make BaseCamp work for our business. I finally chose DeskAway because it was the most user-friendly tool to use for all of my staff, and it gives me great overview and reporting capabilities so I know what's going on at a macro level.

Can you give a specific incident or example when DeskAway was really useful when managing or getting a project completed?
Although the individual details are different, most of our client projects have similar milestones and tasks. Therefore, the ability to set up templates to work off of when getting a brand new client has been invaluable. Once we've created the strategy for a client, we are physically DOING their social media every single day - creating tweets, updating Facebook, creating blog entries, and so on. Thankfully, DeskAway has recurring tasks - which Basecamp DID NOT.

Was there a learning curve associated with DeskAway? How did your team adapt to a new application?
There was essentially no learning curve associated with DeskAway. What DeskAway calls a "Project", I call a "Client", and once we worked out that this is how we were going to handle organizing our data and tasks, everything was easy from there. I have added new folks over the past few months, and I do not train them - I assign them to their clients, and they are responsible for figuring out how to do the updates assigned to them within DeskAway. I haven't yet had a single person request training or complain about using DeskAway.

What features does your team use the most?
The task lists are the lifeblood of our project management efforts. We use these like crazy.

Are you emailing (sending tasks, attachments etc.) less because of DeskAway?
We are for sure e-mailing less because of DeskAway. I will say that this is a real mental effort that has to come from the top down - if people send me an e-mail question about a client, I have to say "go send this note through DeskAway and then I'll answer it". It requires some sort of a discipline (for my whole team) to break the e-mail habit, but it's so rewarding, because now every note associated with the client project is captured in the same place.

How has DeskAway helped in lowering project costs, profitability or improving efficiency?
DeskAway has definitely improved our efficiency in managing projects; particularly the first phase of our client projects, because those have the most tasks associated with them. In the past, some of those tasks slipped through the cracks, because there were so many moving parts within the initial phase of our client projects. Now, I'll go add a client task and note to my template lists - therefore, I'm constantly improving my project quality with each new client by applying "lessons learned" in real time.

Are there any other thoughts that you would want to share with us regarding our service, product etc.?
I also really love the responsiveness in the support forums area, and the way your team seems to solicit details on ideas and suggestions we (users) have on how to make the product better. The DeskAway product team seems to have a real enthusiasm for the way the product is ACTUALLY used in the field by business owners, and that shows in their communications, and in the enhancements that come out regularly. I do rely heavily on DeskAway to run my business and looked for a LONG time for a product that had the overall appeal that DeskAway has. I am a passionate fan!
